Vaccinations & Deworming
The exact schedule we follow for every puppy in our home
Our Vaccination Philosophy
We follow current AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) puppy vaccination guidelines. Puppies leave us with all age-appropriate vaccines and dewormings completed and a written record signed by our licensed veterinarian.
Vaccination Schedule
- 6 weeks: First DA2PP combination vaccine (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus)
- 9 weeks: Second DA2PP booster
- 12 weeks: Third DA2PP booster + Bordetella (kennel cough), if appropriate
- 16 weeks: Final DA2PP booster + Rabies (given by your vet)
- 1 year & ongoing: Annual DA2PP and Rabies boosters per your vet's recommendation
Puppies that go home before 12 or 16 weeks will need their remaining boosters from your vet. Your puppy's record will show exactly what is done and what is still due.
Deworming Schedule
- 2 weeks: First deworming (pyrantel)
- 4 weeks: Second deworming
- 6 weeks: Third deworming + fecal screen
- 8 weeks: Fourth deworming with broader-spectrum dewormer
- Ongoing: Year-round monthly heartworm + intestinal parasite prevention from your vet
Heartworm & Flea Prevention
Once your puppy reaches the appropriate age and weight, we recommend starting year-round heartworm prevention plus flea/tick coverage. Your vet will pick the product best suited to your area.
What to Avoid Until Vaccines Are Complete
Until your puppy has had their final puppy booster (around 16 weeks), please avoid:
- Dog parks and pet store floors
- Areas where unknown dogs have eliminated
- Boarding kennels and grooming salons (except medically necessary)
Carrying your puppy through public spaces is fine and excellent for socialization. Set them down to walk only in places you trust.
